The Ories Women's team was formed in 1995 and saw a handful of our ladies gain higher honours with selection into the Wellington Pride, and also saw the first Black Fern representative out of Ories - 2002 World Cup winner Rebecca Liua'ana (Becs). Becs was the only Black Ferns rep from Ories for a long time who dedicated countless hours to her beloved club as the Premier Men's Team Manager. She more recently stepped into governance as the VP for the WRFU Rugby Board. She was also an integral member of the 2006 Wellington Pride team that won the National Competition.
The team disbanded in the early 2000s with few ladies putting their hands up to play. The introduction of Sai Tuma'ai into the "behind the scenes" fold in the latter part of 2011, he rallied up a team to take the field in 2012, under the stewardship of Ories Centurion Legends Lui Aukuso and Fa'avae Tuma'ai. Ories Premier Women's team have since become the most successful Women's team in the last decade, becoming the ribbon team and benchmark group of the Ories family. Winning their maiden Championship in 2014 against traditional powerhouse Norths at Porirua Park was a special victory. A team of young ladies that would mature into leaders of the Wellington Women's rugby scene. With Aukuso's progression to the Premier Men's team in 2017, Mason Malagamaali'i took over as Head Coach, and with the retention of Tuma'ai - got to work quickly. The team won their second championship title in 2017, again in 2019 and 2020 under Malagamaali'i. New Head coach Joe Uele having been assistant in 2020 took over the reigns with club stalwart Fuamai Moeka'a as Malagamaali'i progressed to take over the Premier Men's team in 2021. Uele and Moeka'a continued the streak to complete the 3-peat in 2021. With many of the core crew having gone into retirement, the team has gone through a rebuilding phase that has seen talented young ladies join the ranks, bringing with them a much needed excitement to the group. At the helm for 2024 is Ories Stalwart, Wellington Pride points record holder, Black Ferns XV member and goal kicking machine Amanda Rasch. Rasch has been a member of all championship winning Ories Women's teams and has a wealth of knowledge to guide this team to their next championship. We welcome any females keen to have a go and learn from an experienced bunch of ladies, and be lead by one of the most experienced to ever don the Ories jersey.
